What is the HIRE Vets Medallion Program?

The HIRE Vets Medallion Program acknowledges employers for their dedication to recruiting, employing, and retaining the veterans of our nation. President Donald J. Trump signed the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans (HIRE Vets) Act of 2017 into law in May 2017. The Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) oversees the administration of the HIRE Vets Medallion Program.

The U.S. Department of Labor recently unveiled the recipients of the 2023 HIRE Vets Medallion Program Demonstration Award. This award recognizes job creators for their exemplary efforts in recruiting, employing, and retaining America’s veterans. A diverse range of honorees includes small businesses, community-based nonprofits, and national companies.

U.S. Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta remarked, “America’s veterans are proven leaders who bring skills, dedication, and determination to our nation’s workforce.” To attain a HIRE Vets Medallion Award, employers must exhibit a steadfast commitment to offering veterans opportunities for building meaningful careers. This program establishes a benchmark for excellence in veteran hiring and aids veterans in identifying employers dedicated to advancing veterans in the workplace.

Recipients of the 2023 HIRE Vets Medallion Program Demonstration Award underwent evaluation based on various criteria, including:

1. Veteran hiring and retention
2. Availability of veteran-specific resources
3. Leadership programming for veterans
4. Dedicated human resources
5. Compensation and tuition assistance programs for veterans
